Recently, I learned about the early civilization of Africa, and this paper will be specifically focused on ancient Egypt. In Ancient Egypt the Nile River was an important body of water to the people for it was the largest river in the world, and the egyptians could build up successful civilizations around it. The Nile River starts around the middle of Uganda and flows all the way up North (through Egypt) to the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile River is very unique because it is one of the only rivers that runs South to North. Africa is also a good place to start a civilization because it contains every climate except a frozen tundra.

Egypt was the strongest and most well known civilization in Ancient Africa and was ruled by pharaohs for most its existence. The Egyptians built up a well organized agricultural society around the Nile, and for the most part, m succeeded. Egyptian historians organized the good and bad times of Egypt into kingdoms. The Old kingdom was the first period, and it represented the time that most of the pyramids were built. An intermediate period represents a tough time in ancient Egyptian history. An intermediate period followed The Old Kingdom, and during this time Egypt was invaded by Hyksos (a neighboring civilization) and forced to put the civilization on hold. After this intermediate period came Egypts golden age, which was called The New Kingdom. During The New Kingdom, Egypt expanded its territory and invented the early form of paper; papyrus, and the writing style of hieroglyphics.

The last three rulers of Egypt were Alexander the Great, then the Ptolmie family (they ruled for almost 300 years), and lastly for a short time, Cleopatra the seventh. Ancient Egypt was the most successful African civilization located to important parts of Africa such as the Nile River, and the Sahara Desert. All in all, it is very fun to study about Ancient Egypt because there is so much to learn about.
