“Okay sweetie, you ready to go?”

Marisol nodded, and tried to pick up her back pack.

“I'll hold it.” Marisol's mom, Barbara, picked up the pink cinderella backpack.

“Uppy!” Marisol whined and stretched her arms out wide.

“No Mari, I am carrying too much, okay?” Barbara bent down. “You can walk, we are only going out to the car.”

“Tooo yongg. Uppy!” Marisol crossed her arms and stood firmly on the ground, her chubby cheeks puffing out, showing her mom that she was in a bad mood.

“If you don't want to come, you can stay here with the mice.” Heather started to walk slowly out of the house, and Marisol seeing that the case was hopeless, wobbled stubbornly after her.

Marisol and her mom were on their way to Barbara's sisters house, which was in the hillsides of Virginia. It was a really pretty farm, and Marisol was going there for a week to stay with her aunt, while her mom and dad went to find a farm house for themselves to move into.

“Are you feeling okay Marisol?” Barbara called from the passenger seat.

“Ine good.” Marisol went back to playing her game on the iPad.

“Are you excited to go see Aunt Grace and your cousin Lili?” Barbara turned around in her seat to look at Marisol. “You only saw them once before when they came down to see is in the city. They loved Miami. You've never been to a farm before so this will be a new experience for you, you will see farm animals for the first time!”

Oh will she just shut up! I'm trying to play a game! I mean, I don't even like Lili. Oh guess what else. She is making me move into a stupid farm house near cousin Lili so we can see each other MORE OFTEN. What in the world is her problem? Oh yeah thats right, she thinks I'll like it. NO WAY. Lili is really mean, and when we move, we will be living away from Miami where we get to do a bunch of fun stuff, and my entertainment will be staring at the grass, “watching the bugs move” she says. Wow, her, “lets be farmers” idea, is really stupid.

“Marisol!” Marisol was shaken from her thoughts.

“Yes?”

“Are you excited?”

“Yes Bob.” Ughhhh. Talkative bees. Marisol went back to her game.

Sooner or later they arrived at Aunt Grace's farm. When Barbara had said they were close, Marisol had tried to fall asleep to avoid the loud annoying greetings, and when that didn't work, she closed her eyes and pretended to be sleeping.

“Awwww, poor thing. All tired out. Hey Jerry,” Barbara tapped her husbands shoulder. Can you carry Mari in? We'll find a bed for her and put her down until she wakes up.” Marisol tried not to smile at her success.

“Sure honey, bring in her luggage.” Jerry picked Marisol up and started walking towards the house.

Aunt Grace's family was standing on the front porch waiting for Marisol and her family to get here. There was Petunia, who was 13 and just gotten her nails done, and so she wouldn't hug anybody, being afraid of ruining them. Then there was the carefree blondie, Jack, who was 8 years old and loved pretending he was good at baseball. Then finally, there was Lili. She was three years old, just one year older then Marisol, and loved animals, but despised Marisol.

There were many greetings and smiles, but they were much quieter, because Marisol was “sleeping”.

Once everyone was inside and Marisol was laid down in her room, Jerry and Barbara discussed the care of Marisol for the week.

“We'll miss her so much.” A single tear ran down Barbara’s cheek.“But I know that you will take such good care of her.”

“I am sure you will.” Jerry smiled and looked at Aunt Grace and her husband Uncle Todd. “And the only reason we are doing this, is because we think she will have so much more fun here then with us driving around and signing contracts. Plus the guy we are dealing with hates kids, and would not sell us the house if he knew we had a kid, and then it would get all ugly...anyway, thanks for understanding.”

So he does NOT get it either. Marisol, who was standing in the hallway thought. They are both completely ignorant to the situation. I mean who would leave their two year old daughter with a boring teen, and stupid 8 year old, and a mean 3 year old. I never thought my parents were that bad. Marisol sighed and walked into the room pretending to look sleepy.

“Hi Bob, Hi Dab.”Marisol put a fake smile on her face and turned to her aunt and uncle. “Hi Auntie Gace, Hi Uncie Tobb.”

“Hi! How are you doing Marisol?”Aunt Grace asked. She hugged Marisol so tightly that Marisol made a throw up face to her dad, who looked at her with a stern “Behave” face.

“Ine good.”Marisol said.

“Are you excited to stay with us?” Aunt Grace asked.

Sisters alike. Grace and my mom, so enthusiastic and fake.

“Yes.” If only my pleading had worked I wouldn’t be in this situation. Marisol plopped on to the couch next to her mom.

“Okay sweetie, we are going to miss you, but it will be over very soon, I promise.”Barbara looked closely at Marisol, who was doing her best to avoid her moms gaze. “Okay?” Barbara looked up.

“Kay.” Marisol looked down. Barbara and Jerry embraced Marisol in a warm hug and then left for their one week journey.

The next day at breakfast, Marisol was eating soggy cereal, and studying the back of Petunia’s iPhone when someone decided to break the silence.

“Petunia. What did I say about phones at the table?” Aunt Grace looked up and stared Petunia down.

“As if you are just noticing that I was using it..” Petunia put her phone in her back pocket and started to eat her extra soggy cereal.

“I do not appreciate that attitude. So after breakfast you are going to show Mari around the farm. And bring Lili and Jake."

“Actually Zach is coming over so we can play baseball after breakfast.” Aunt Grace looked over like she’d never heard about this. And well, she hadn’t.

“Oh yeah, and I forgot to tell you that Eve is coming over at 12 to go to the mall with me. We are getting our hair done.”Petunia flipped her brown curls. “So that only gives me about an hour to show Mari around, but ok.” Aunt Grace hadn’t heard about this either.

“No you are not.” Aunt Grace looked At Petunia. “I make the final decisions around here, and I wasn’t consulted about this until it was arranged. So you can go ahead and cancel that appointment and reschedule it for tomorrow.” Grace looked sternly at Petunia, who was flipping her curls in anger.

“Fine.” Petunia glared at anyone who dared look at her. “Well then excuse me Mom,” Petunia said in anger. “but I need to use my phone at the table.” Aunt Grace sighed.

“Mari, are you finished with your meal?” Marisol nodded. Aunt Grace cleared all the plates, and then started the dishes. Jake raced outside to meet Zach, and Petunia got on her phone. Aunt Grace whisked by and promptly snatched the phone out of Petunia’s hands as she ushered her, Lili and Marisol out the door. Petunia put her hands in her pockets and started the tour.

They basically just walked around for an hour in silence, following Petunia, who was still mad from that mornings events.

When they finally arrived at the place where the bunnies were kept, Marisol perked up. Marisol stuck her hand in the cage to pet one, but ended up getting bitten. Lili laughed and pointed at Marisol when this happened.

“You are so stupid.” Lili said. “What did you fink would happen?” Marisol looked down and said nothing until they arrived at a big building.

"you have boo ouses?” Marisol asked.

“No you idiot, do you even know anyfing?” Lili asked. “It’s a barn.”

“How could you even understand that?” Petunia swung her hips and flipped her hair indignantly. “By the way Lili, your stupid too.”

Marisol glared at Lili snd Petunia, then went inside of the barn by herself, because Petunia was too busy being sassy, and Lili already started leaving. Soon Marisol came out, but she was screaming and running for the house.

“BIG BURY ITE MONTER!!!!!!!!”

“What a dumb baby, she thinks cows and sheep are monsters.” Lili stalked off towards the house.

“Well, I don’t really care, because the tour is over, and that is all that matters.” Petunia followed Lili in the same manner.

Back in the house, they found Aunt Grace soothing Marisol about the “monsters”.

As Marisol went to bed that night she wanted to cry, but having already done so more than ten times that day, she just got into her sheets and tried to go to bed. Lili, who was in the bed next to her, was snoring quite loudly. Loud enough that Marisol thought it was fake. As she snuggled up in her covers, Marisol felt some slimy wet things down by her feet. She screamed and wriggled, and when she jumped out of bed, she found out that they were frogs, and that mean little Lili, had put them there. Lili was laughing her head off, and Marisol decided to sleep on the floor that night.

The days at the farm past, and none of them were good. Lili was always mean, selfish, and above the rest of the world, Jake was never present in the house, and Petunia was married to her phone. Aunt Grace was nice but too enthusiastic for Marisol, and she had a serious workohalic problem. Uncle Todd was usually at work, and Marisol found her days boring and tough to get through.

One day close to the end of the visit, Lili was outside playing by herself, and Marisol tried to join her. Lili said fine, but Marisol didn’t have any fun because Lili bossed her around. They didn’t even start the game before Mari left because she couldn’t take any more of Lili screaming about being the ice queen. Mari went inside and found Jake watching cartoons on the couch.

“Dake pay?” She asked.

“ Um, guys, is there something wrong with this baby?” Jake looked at Marisol like she was an Alien. “I think she asked for a bottle. Um, mom! Can you ——“ Marisol didn’t let him get any further, sliding off the couch and going upstairs to find some paper to draw on. Upstairs she got a pencil from her backpack, and then found Petunia to ask for some paper. Petunia was in her room on her phone when Marisol walked in.

“What do you want?”

“have paper pease.”

“Well if you have paper then what to you need?” Asked Petunia, clearly annoyed.

“paper!”

“Um, I don’t ——“ Petunia’s phone started ringing and happy for the excuse, she picked it up and started talking. “Oh hey Audrey! Yep just have to tell my mom. Okay. OMG YOUR GETTING HIGHLIGHTS?! Wow. I wish I could. Your just obsessed with him, Carter can’t even do math. I’ll help you find it. You know you need the perfect makeup on when you ask him. Yeah, and I don’t have any highlight yet. Huh? Oh yeah i know my mom hates it too. Okay I’ll meet you there. Yeah bye.” Petunia turned and saw Marisol still in her room. “What are you still doing here?!”

“Paper.” Marisol stated.

“Oh. On the desk. Then get out.” Petunia’s phone buzzed and she squealed. “OMG. He texted back.” She put her phone to the ear and screamed, “Audrey! Is Eve with you?! I have news!!! You will not believe what just happened! He texted back!!!!” Marisol went to the desk, and from there she could still hear the squeals from the other end of the line, from Audrey and Eve. Marisol swore to herself to never become like this.

Marisol drew at the dining room table until dinner time, when Lili told her to pack up her stuff and leave. Mari knew she meant pack up her drawing stuff and get out of the dining room, but she couldn’t hep thinking that Lili meant pack her clothes and get out of the house.

“Petunia!” Lili called. “Set the table!!!”

“Coming!” Petunia yelled. Lili came over closer to Mari and then saw her drawings.

“Wow. You make those?” Lili asked.

“Yeb.” Marisol said.

“They are good. Pretty. Can you teach me?” Oh so your an art digger. But out loud she said,

“Zure. Det paper.” Marisol drew with Lili until dinner time, and then some after. Then it moved to playing make believe, playing with dolls, and sabotaging Jake and Petunia’s friends.

Finally Lili apologized, a couple days later.

“Sorry for being so mean. Petunia taught me. Fends?”

"Fends.” Marisol answered. I guess Lili isn’t so bad, I just needed to find the good and fun in her. (Ooooh, I forgot, but mom said that about Alyssa and she only got meaner. I guess she had no nice in her. Pretty bad. Marisol thought.

When Barbara and Jerry came back from their trip, there was celebration, and they all ate a lovely dinner together.

When Marisol’s family was about to leave for their new house, Barbara said,

“Mari sweet cake, you are going to love the new house! It is huge and there is lots of space for animals, and it is right down the road from Lili’s house!” A week ago Marisol would have hated this news, but now, she was really excited to start her new life. And with a cheerful giggle, Marisol shouted,

“MONTERS!!!!!”
